Test Shoot

Following the pervious test shoot i did i found that My Music Magazine cover would not construct the my concept neither would it portray the theme of my magazine if i had chosen to continue with the idea of putting a male and a female on my cover. After testing this idea i found the cover would look more conventinal and relatable if only a female was to appear on the cover. Because my music magazine genre is indie pop i chose to add a rock chick theme to the cover , therefore i asked my cover model to test shaking her hair around and jumping up and down. After looking at the results the photo's proved that it would be to hard to edit if my models hair was split into different strands. I therefore reconsidered my cover theme and chose to test wether putting a fan on my cover model and having her stand still instead of jumping would work better than the previous test shoots. The photo's were sucessfull and i have no decided to only feature a female on my cover , standing still face on to the camera as i feel this would create stronger intimacy between the viewer and the model.

The image to the left is a brief summarised plan of what i intend to do inorder to create my music magazine conver, contents and double page spread. I have done this inorder to create a base in which i will build upon the further i develop in my magazine creating task. If i make any changes or change the theme and conept entirely i will create a new plan whilst keeping this one as it will be used in my evaluation.

The Third magazine i have chosen to look at is Rolling Stones magzine. A timeless and classically cool music and style magazine which is a conglomerate of music and fashion. An immediate sexual content is projected fron the cover due to female models and their pose on the front, the simple colour scheme used on the cover of red, black and white allows the cover models to be the main focus and therfore sends a stronger message across to the customer. Direct adress is used to an extreme extent on the cover as from the main image of Gossip girl stars Blake lively and leighton meester. They are staring intently into the customers eyes. The direct use presented on this cover will allow customers to share a much stronger intamicy between the cover models. Consequently resulting in the customer to relate to the cover models , and beleive by purchasing the magazine they can relate to them and aspire to be them. V magazine's clever use of slogan's , the main one being ' High voltage' creates a strong theme on the cover. Allow it may be assumed that as the models on the front are posed provictavly , that only men are being targeted i feel women are also the target audience in this case as women can relate to the programme these two models appear in which is aimed at women and teengagers, not just men. The main heading ' Rolling Stones' is in shocking red which allows the heading to stand out amongst the rest of the cover , resulting in the impotance of the magazine title to be emphasised. The main and only image used on the cover is of two obviously attractive women , who are at A list celebrity status. By using this image a sense of class is felt from the magazine due to the cover. The mode of language is slighlty more mature than what you would find on a pop magazine , the language used for the subheading ' The nasty thrill of Gossip Girl' is intreging and appears intellectuall and relates the main image excellently.

My intentions :
Through the analysis i understand the conventions of an indie pop magazine to be able to follow these concepts and themes to be able to create a mazgine cover, contents and double page similar to the the genre i have researched.Through my target audience reseaerch i have found that potential customers buy music magazines with the intention to read about other items such as fashion and lifestyle aswell as reading about music which would be the main genre of the magazine in which they would purchase. I also found that a customer develops an interest in a magazine when a strong, fluent and obvious genre and conept is presented. My target audience research showed me that customers prefer for a music magazine to be fluent in its colour theme , font and presentation. Therefore i plan to meet the following conventions by creating a strong and apparent theme throughout my magazine , allowing the magazine to develop a concept and aestethic. I will follow a fluent colour and text theme that relate to the conventions of a music magazine similar to the genre i am creating. However i will challenge the conventions by mixing the two genres of fashion and music to create a stylistic music magazine. I will do this because i feel these two genres appeal to both men and women , and music and fashion play a huge role in eachtothers industries.
